This and That

Look at you! Reading my blog :) I know your time is valuable, so thanks. I wish I could include the 786 topics I have thought about blogging about since I last wrote, but I now can't remember them all. Plus, that would just be too much to read. Plus, I have to get downstairs to finish packing lunches for tomorrow. Now, let's have a moment of silence for anyone who is, or ever has been a "lunch packer". Praise God.
Okay, moving on. So many awesome things have happened since I last posted. A few weekends ago, I had the privilege to speak at the "Walking in Purpose" Faith Church Women's Conference. What an honor. I loved all the great truth that God downloaded in my spirit. And I loved sharing all of it with a really, super- great group of ladies. The weekend and the room were filled with beauty, tears, talent, freedom, and of course, laughter. Nothing can quite replace a room full of giggling women. And by the way, for the ladies that heard me speak, you can look for my book "Comment VS Like" to drop Fall 2013. HAHA.
There are lots of other great things to blame for restraining me from social media lately. On October 7th, we launched the grand opening of Faith Church NYC! If you were there, you know the word epic doesn't quite cut it. God showed up! With electric worship and a "standing room only" crowd, we saw 37 people give their hearts and lives to the Lord. Gives me chills just typing it. Come 'awn somebody!! (I typed that with my southern accent, and hope you read it appropriately.) Go back and read again, out loud. Just to be sure. Ahhh, that was a nice try. So with our NYC campus full steam ahead and family visiting from out of state, we have had full schedules and lots of fun.
For those keeping up from out of state. The kids are doing great in school. Ashlyn is basically a black belt PRE-Ker. She is learning so much and her competitive nature (can't imagine where that came from, must have been very distant relatives from the 1700's), is keeping her at the top of the class. She is growing like a weed (44 inches tall to be exact) and she is winning over new friends everywhere we go with her sweet smile. And of course, even though she is 4 now, it still takes me forever to get through the grocery store if it's a Wednesday (senior citizen discount day) because every elderly person in the entire store stops to compliment and sometimes touch her long beautiful curls. So, for time sake, I shop on Saturdays.
Justice is rocking and rolling in KG. He has a great teacher (they both do), such a blessing. He is reading so well. We can't spell things anymore to keep secrets. He sounds out whatever we spell. Gotta be careful around Christmas this year.
Justice is keeping busy and already winning the hearts of his peers and adults alike. He loves Karate and Gymnastics, but has not yet taken classes for either one. You'd never know it when you see him "practice" though. This kid is so flexible and has the upper body strength of Jet Li. It's amazing. So signing up for karate/ballet/sports is one of the next things on the list now that we are somewhat settled.
Okay, just trying to include update stuff in here. When we first moved, I said to myself, "I'm going to blog like every day..." Haha. Yeah right. Anyhow, I love writing and appreciate when I am able to make time to do it. So, I hope you like reading and keeping up. So....now that you are done reading this, leave me a comment and let me know you rejoiced with me about 37 lives changed at our FC NYC grand opening. Then find another blog of mine to read. Thanks for stopping by. I love and appreciate all the amazing people God puts in my life, close and far away. And keep smiling, you never know who's world you might change.

I am in LOVE

In my usual blogging style, this entry is two-fold :) The first entry is geared toward marriage.Don't stop reading here, it's good stuff, I promise. Let it be known that not only do I love my best friend and husband, I am IN LOVE with him. There is a reason for that, let me explain. When we got married, we made our vows very aware of the culture our marriage would have to survive in. We drove away to our honeymoon with an un-waivable determination in our minds and hearts to not be included in the 51% of couples in our culture who do not make it. It was giggles, romance and lots of great memories for those honeymoon days. And every day since then has been WORK. That's right, I said work! It's true, lets not hide it. A great marriage doesn't come because the planets align and you fall in love and tie the knot. It comes as a result of a mixture of many ingredients, just one being DAILY WORK. Part of the problem is that my generation, and the one before and after, do not know the value of work. This makes the concept a little more difficult to grasp. You reap what you sew is hard to grasp for a generation who reaps things they didn't sew and has an instant gratification complex. But this blog is meant to be equipping and encouraging, so let me go on. I want to lay out a few of the key ingredients here that make up the success of our marriage and mix together to make Chris and I IN LOVE with each other. Some of these are scriptural, some personal preference and some the result of wisdom imparted to me by women of God who have been married 50+ years. I won't overwhelm you, I will share a few basics now and blog on some others later. *Disclaimer* This blog isn't to talk down to anyone who has gone through a D situation (our first rule, that word isn't allowed in our vocabulary). I am not better than you and I pray that God continues to heal your heart and restore you. This is for anyone who is married or every plans to marry (or marry again).
So, I dare you to start implementing some of these that you don't currently do. Email me and update soon and let me know how it's going.

  • Hug/kiss 2-3 (or more) times every day, including a kiss goodnight, every night
  • Go to church together (take your family to church)
  • Tithe together (lay hands on that envelope/debit card-if you tithe online), believe together for your finances
  • Find a Financial Peace University class near you and complete it (daveramsey.com)
  • Take the tv out of your bedroom (yikes!) (the only womans face he should see in your bedroom is yours, tv or not. even if it is just Olivia from SVU)
  • www.5lovelanguages.com  find each others and speak it
  • Read "Love and Respect" and "Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti" (both books)
  • Have young kids? (get on a 2 week plan to get your kids sleeping in their own bed!!!; be persistent, your marriage is worth it
  • Put your spouse first, put your kids second (that's a hard one)
  • Never get this order mixed up: God--Family--Work--Church (email me with ??'s)
  • Schedule intimate time (hey, you make time for everything else, don't give me that look)
  • Wives, you home should be a safe haven for your man to come home to. Manage your time wisely, get off facebook and tidy up! (Hey, you want the truth or not?)
  • Take care of your man! Feed him, rub his back, be romantic with him.
Okay, so these are starters. I told you it was work. It takes discipline, people. But invest into your marriage and take off your "D" parachute. If we can do it, so can you. We are not super heroes, we are regular people just like you who decided that we will NOT settle or compromise. If anyone knows how it is to be busy with the demands of kids (ours are 4 and 5), work, church and the list goes on.....we know. You can do it, make one change at a time and watch how God honors your efforts and watch your marriage grow and blossom.

Oh, so I said this entry was two fold and I promise I won't leave you hanging. So, what else am I in love with?? New York City! Oh my goodness!! Our Faith Church NYC launch is approaching this Sunday and I am so excited. We had a trial set up this past week and it was awesome. Of course there was the scurry of everyone finding out where everyone and everything goes, but I loved every minute. We have a launch team that has such a passion for serving. God is going to do some amazing things at Faith Church NYC. What an awesome God we serve and what an awesome team we have. I am so in love with NYC. I have been since I was 15 years old. As I was driving out of the city last Sunday night, God just supercharged the passion I already have for this city and these people. I can't wait to love on our FC team and love on New York. We will be meeting in the AMC Empire 25 just off Times Square and just riding up the escalators and looking out the huge glass windows at the masses of tired, hurried, burdened people in the streets ignites this ministry adrenaline cocktail inside me that breathes hope, change and love. I am honored to be His hands and feet to this city. I can't wait to see God show up. God's not dead, He's surely alive and He's living on the inside, roaring like a lion!

Okay, well it's getting late. So many more things I would like to blog about. They will have to wait until next time. Oh and by the way.....I found a Chick-fil-A on the NYU campus in New York!! Hey now! Delight yourself in the Lord and he WILL give you the desires of your <3 div="div" nbsp="nbsp">

Open The Boxes

This post will consist of some status updates from our recent move to CT as well as some insightful thinking. So please, read on. As I sit and type this, I am sitting on my oh-so-comfy king size bed. Yay!
Our moving company pulled out of our driveway on July 2nd and arrived with our home-in-boxes on July 11th!! I expected it to take them a few days, but was not anticipating 9 days. My goodness. We did plan ahead and packed suitcases (swimsuits, thank goodness), toiletries, underwear and air mattresses. So we were "camping" kind of, the first week being our new home. The kids loved it of course. Lots of time at the pool and exploring our new city, paper plates, plastic forks and spoons, lots of sandwich meat and cereal, a make-shift trash can, laundry-mat every other day and fun times eating out! I have to say, it was simplistic. Once we finished complaining, it wasn't too bad. Haha.

Well, we have now gone from that scene to the BOX scene. Those of you who have moved recently (or ever) know it well. Boxes, boxes everywhere. We are unpacking one thing at a time and all of our things are finding their new place in our new home. It's so great how the Lord reminds me of things through everyday routine...As I have gone though the boxes unpacking, I have found myself making a mental note several times. It says "nah, I don't want to have to deal with unpacking that/those yet, I will move on to something else and come back to that one". About there is when the Holy Spirit kicks in and says "That'll preach!" Wow. How many times do we do that in our own lives? We have these boxes in our hearts and our minds. You know the ones I am talking about, yours are probably different or even perhaps the same as mine. The boxes contain the things we don't want to or don't like to deal with. They often contain hurt, disappointment or regret. When our mind goes down that path and the Lord starts to push us to open them up, our emotional reflexes close them quickly. The truth is that order and healing cannot take place until we have opened those boxes and allowed our Abba Father to help us deal with their contents. Furthermore, a cluttered heart and a messy mind cannot be used to their full potential. God has a purpose for your life. He needs you to play for His team and you need Him to play for yours. His desire for you is not mediocre life, it isn't middle-of-the-road mentality. His desire for you is life more abundantly (John 10:10). He wants to help you deal with whatever you might have in your boxes. He knows what's in them already. Some things may be easy to unpack, some may take some time. So, I encourage you to finish reading this blog and then take a few minutes to just be quiet before the Lord and search your heart. Let Him show you the boxes you are avoiding opening. They may be from last year, they may be from your childhood. Let Him help you open them. Let Him help you heal. Let Him help you forgive. As you do, I promise that with the help of the Creator of the Universe, more things will find their place, you will unlock your potential, you will accelerate your destiny.

If you would like to share about your boxes, I would love to pray for you. You can always email me personally   proverbs31qt@hotmail.com.

WOW

WOW! < I have heard that reply from almost everyone that I have shared our moving news with recently. Wow, that's awesome. Wow, that's huge. Wow, that's far. Wow, what about your Mom? Wow, the snow. Wow, when can I come visit? Haha.
The thing is, that has been my exact response to God. Wow, God. Look at you just work things out. The ringtone on my phone right now is "Your Love Never Fails" and I love the bridge where the truth of Romans meets a really catchy melody and reminds me that "You make all things work together for my good". He does. You can imagine all the details that had to fall into place for us to be on track to pull out with the moving truck on July 1st. I am so thankful that my BIG God who opens doors and closes doors also cares about every little detail. From selling our home and truck to adopting out our sweet St.Bernard, God cares about every detail. A few of the details have already fallen into place and a few of them will do so in the near future.
As you read this today, be encouraged that the maker of the stars also cares about every detail of your life. Be reminded that you are only here and able to read this because of His grace and mercy. Just like you, I am clinging to His word that He will work all things together for my good. Lord knows, I would worry night and day about all these little things if I let myself. AND, it is much easier to sing those lyrics when you are in the season where all the details are worked out. Hanging on to that promise when many details are not yet worked out, or have not been worked out in alignment with our comfort zones...now that is a different story. So that is where I sit as I type these words. Thankful in my heart for all the things he has already worked out (like us getting the home we originally liked best in CT) and expectant for all the things He is working on already that I cannot see yet. We serve an amazing Savior, He is bigger than our IF?'s, our WHY?'s and our HOW?'s. Trusting in Him is what brings us peace and having that trust when we cannot see is what we call faith. (Hebrews 11:1)

That's all for now, subscribe today so you can catch my next posting.

Lewis Family News

I love how God changes seasons in His perfect timing. He always does; and knowing He is in control of every detail of every season is what blankets life with His peace that passes all understanding.
Okay! So we know I am blogging about season change....but what is the news? Keep reading.

When I was 15 years old, I had the opportunity to visit New York City on a journalism trip with school. At the time, I was just excited to travel somewhere new with my friends. Little did I know, while I was there (looking up at the tall buildings and sticking out as a tourist), God would plant a passion in my heart that would begin a thread in the tapestry of my marriage, motherhood and ministry. This city that never sleeps became (in a matter of about 2 hours) my favorite place on earth. It is with a smile on my face that I would like to share with you. After much prayer and fasting, Chris and I have accepted a ministry opportunity as campus pastors of Faith Church NYC, just off Times Square in New York City! With our launch service approaching quickly in August, our family will be moving the first week in July. We are beyond excited. Of course, our excitement is bittersweet. We will miss our family, friends and I will miss my Chic-fil-a; but what a mission field! We are stoked to be his hands and feet to reach His kids in my favorite place ever.

We will be having a friends and family bash of sorts, in June. Details and RSVP information will be posted on facebook and anyone not on FB will be contacted via email. Thank you all for your prayers as we transition in to this new season of our ministry. Feel free to inbox me with questions and such. I will be blogging again soon about other details and the kids response to the news. Love each of you!

By His Grace,
Jessica
